Southern Unity Movement Inc., hosts StoneWall Soul: A Rhetorical Riot each June, which allows Black LGBTQ people to come together to commemorate and celebrate both Stonewall and Juneteenth. It is a cultural and intergenerational event highlighting the community's talented young and seasoned artists.
The most recent Stonewall Soul (June 14, 2925), featured amazing print artists Naylon Mitchell and Sean La'Mont, legendary poet, Theresa Davis, and young and gifted spoken-word artists Shakir Lee, Treasure Von Holland, and Kimberly Autumn, Aka FYG. In addition, a visual presentation of Stonewall history curated and narrated by Tracee McDaniel, a powerful song by Tim'n West, stand-up comedy by Kia Barnes, and a spectacular fashion show by Leon Parham and his Mama's Boi collection, were a part of the program. Anthony Antoine delighted the audience with a surprise performance poem from his ADODI Muse Ensemble days. He and Tracee McDaniel were the evening's awesome hosts.
This event was made possible by the generous support of Anthony Antoine, KuteKocktails, John Moore room decor, JuJu & Melissa of Truth Lounge, Juan & Gee of Virgil’s, and Kechia Matadin of The Daiquiri Factory.
